Have you ever got a random text from someone in the middle of the night? Have you ever sent a message when you were a little tipsy to the wrong person or wrote something you later regretted? I was thinking back to a text that a colleague from work sent me at 5am by mistake. I was meant for someone else, but it was a jolt to read it as first. It said, “Are you coming over, or am I sleeping alone tonight?” Needless to say, my first instinct was the correct one, that he had simply typed out the wrong phone number from his contact list, but it made me smile to think of the amount of teasing I could throw his way.
The other thing it made me think of was that although we work with the same people day and day out, we never really know them. It’s a private world we each belong to behind closed doors and drawn curtains.
Try this, think of a message you’ve either sent and regretted or received and made you do a double take. Write about it.
Or, construct a story from one of these. Why was the message sent? Was it for the right person, the wrong one, when how, what kind of misunderstandings can arise?
1. I founds your keys. You left them at the bar. Want me to bring them?
2. I can’t believe you did that.
3. Next time, you’re buying…
Ok – have fun. 🙂
