One of the best things about writing is that it is a place where you can do anything. It’s your world. You’re God and can control everything. actions of your characters, the scene, the weather, colour and shape, language. Anything.
Just to flex your creative muscles, create an ordinary scene. Place someone in a mundane situation such as making a meal in the kitchen, driving to work or taking the dog out for a walk. Next, have them do something unexpected. Play with gravity, throw in a mugging or introduce space aliens. Whatever it is, make it totally contrary to what belongs there. Have fun with imagination and don’t self edit. Don’t think to yourself “that’s stupid” or “that would never happen”. Remember – this is your world. Do what you want with it for 500 words.
